Well done guys!!

Well done 3rd, 4th,5th and 6th Class children took part in the first ever PRIMARY SCHOOLS TRIATHLON at the Sports Complex last Thursday!  The children had to swim 2 lengths of the pool, jump out and run to their bike for a 1.2 km cycle followed by 800m on the track, a tidy little run for an experienced athlete!! Coach Ross McGlynn and Therese Kilgannon from Sligo Sport and Recreation assisted by what seemed to be an endless army of volunteer marshals ran this amazing event like clockwork! 259 children in total took part, all of whom got a great big cheer and a medal for their efforts!! We are very proud of you.. Many thanks to Mr.Reilly, SNA Berni Mahon and Ms McNulty for their help in organising the children and a very bifg thank you to the Lyttle Family for their help with the bikes!! Jeanette Towey

The Big Blue Box Challenge

Some 4th class children got to visit The Bank of Ireland today to receive their certificates for taking part in The St. Vincent De Paul / Bank of Ireland Big Blue Box Volunteer Challenge.

For the challenge cyclists are making their way down the west coast of Ireland, along the ‘Wild Atlantic Way’, collecting mementos in towns they visit along the way. They are also, most  importantly, raising money for a great cause.

Children from 4th and 6th classes in our school got a feeling for the distance that these cyclists will cover by running team laps of our school last week. In total the children ran 99km!

Today the children from 4th class who participated got to collect their certificates, have their faces painted, enjoy some treats and very importantly they got to cheer on the cyclists who were departing on the next leg of their tour to Ballina, Co. Mayo.

We wish them the best of luck 🙂

Children from Ms. Travers’ 3rd Class and Ms. Donohoe’s 3rd/4th Class have been participating in a Sport for LIFE programme. This programme gives children knowledge of how their body works and how best to take care of it through fun activities. For example we have learned all about the Food Pyramid, how our heart works, our muscle names and locations etc. Today we went to the I.T to meet other schools who also participated and to play some of the activities together again. We even got free t-shirts and a certificate for our school! Teachers can now teach the programme to other classes too!  Thank you to all of the Sport for LIFE facilitators. We have had great fun!
