Congratulations to all our students from 3rd- 6th class who played in Markievicz Park today. The boys made it to the final and just very narrowly missed out on lifting the cup by one point! All players did us so proud! Thank you also to all the parents and supporters that cheered us on. A great day was had! ūüĎŹūüŹĹūü•ą

Van Gogh’s ‘Sunflowers’

3rd Class, Art  Tagged , , No Comments »

Vincent Van Gogh himself would have been very impressed¬†with the art work produced in Third Class this week. The children have been studying the life and work¬†of Van Gogh and they decided to focus on his most famous painting ‘Sunflowers’. They recreated it in their own way and the finished pieces are¬†just stunning. Well done to all the budding artists in Third Class!

In 3rd class we have been busy doing a project on Ancient Egypt recently. We have done a lot of individual and group research both in books and on the computers and now we are experts on the life of Tutankhamen, mummies, pyramids and all things Egyptian. We sorted through pictures of historical artefacts and worked in groups to study Ancient Egyptian methods of farming. Of course we have also been busy doing spectacular works of Art that are displayed in the third class corridor. We particularly loved writing our names in hieroglyphics!

Get Well Soon Regan!

3rd Class, Christmas, General, Mrs. Fahey  Tagged , , , No Comments »

We loved wearing in our Christmas clothes in Third Class today! It was extra special as we were raising money for our friend and classmate Regan. We are all looking forward to having him back with us really soon!

We are celebrating the Advent season now so we lit the first candle on the advent wreath today and said a special prayer. We are preparing for Christmas in various different ways- being extra kind to one another and helping out more around the house.

Our 3rd and 4th class boys enjoyed a great day of football at Sligo I.T recently. They attended the FAI Primary Futsal Finals with over 120 other children from the local area. There were some brilliant skills on show and fantastic goals scored. We’re looking forward to next year already. Well done boys.

Miss Travers’ class have enjoyed planting sunflowers and cress over the last few weeks. They have taken very good care of them- feeding them and making sure they have lots of light. They are delighted with the results and some of the children even decided to replant them in the school garden!

Children from Ms. Travers’ 3rd Class and Ms. Donohoe’s 3rd/4th Class have been participating in a Sport for LIFE programme. This programme gives children knowledge of how their body works and how best to take care of it through fun activities. For example we have learned all about the Food Pyramid, how our heart works, our muscle names and locations etc. Today we went to the I.T to meet other schools who also participated and to play some of the activities together again. We even got free t-shirts and a certificate for our school! Teachers can now teach the programme to other classes too! ¬†Thank you to all of the Sport for LIFE facilitators. We have had great fun!

Easter chicks!

3rd Class, Art, Miss Travers' Class  Tagged , No Comments »

In Miss Travers’ 3rd class the children brought in darning needles and were busy making their very own Easter chicks! When these were complete it was important to make an Easter basket as the chicks needed a little home. The children were proud of their finished pieces & are looking forward to their well deserved Easter break!
