NEWS AND INFORMATION : MONDAY 26th JUNE 2017

Principal’s Message.
As the school year draws to a close, I would like to thank you for the huge support you have given to the staff and I all year. There have been many highlights this year including Sports Day, Football, Plays, Concerts, Church Ceremonies, Competitions, Gardening and achieving our 8th Green Flag. I would like to wish our 6th class pupils every success as they embark on their secondary education. They have been a wonderful group and I am certain they will be great ambassadors for our school.
I hope you have a lovely summer and enjoy the holidays. See you all in September.

MUSIC GENERATION CONCERT & TIN WHISTLE CONCERT:
Music Generation Concert:
Well done to our 6th Class pupils who participated in the Annual Music Generation Sligo Concert at the beginning of the month, hosted here in Mercy Primary. They have been learning the violin since September with their tutor Giulia and were able to play “One in a Million” together with children from three other schools who had been learning the recorder, the keyboard and the guitar. Thank you to Music Generation Sligo and Cranmore Regeneration for this fabulous opportunity for the children.
Tin Whistle Concert:
This took place on Friday last 23rd June in the Halla, under the direction of Seamus McCormack. Parents of 2nd, 3rd and 4th class children enjoyed the treat.
ATTENDANCE AWARDS:
Congratulations to all the boys and girls who will receive medals and certificates for excellent attendance throughout the year.
BOOKS & UNIFORMS:
As the end of year approaches, I would be most grateful for donations of school books and uniforms. School books in mint condition will help to extend our book rental scheme. Uniforms in good condition are most welcome and required here on a daily basis. Please leave unwanted books and uniforms into HSCL Room or Reception.

CENTENARY OF FATIMA (1917-2017):
On May 13th 1917 Our Lady appeared to three children at Fatima in Portugal. Corridor 6 in our school was formerly a boys’ school and was called Scoil Fatima. The statue of Fatima situated at the front of the school is a treasured reminder to us of that apparition. On Friday May 12th this year, the day before the 100 year anniversary, our pupils gathered at the statue for a moving remembrance ceremony.
HEAT & LIGHT CONTRIBUTION:
On behalf of The Board of Management, we would like to express our thanks to all of you who have supported our appeal for funding for the provision of heat and light. We also ask those who have not yet contributed to do so please. We in Our Lady of Mercy always aim to have pleasant, warm and comfortable conditions for your children.
SPORT:
A huge amount of sport has happened this term.
Gaelic: Well done to the boys and girls Gaelic teams who played so well in their Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic matches. They showed great team spirit and did us very proud.
3rd & 4th Classes took part in a Hurling & Football Blitz in Scarden. This was a very well organised and enjoyable event run by coaches from the I.T.
Sports Day: It was a great fun filled day and the children had a fantastic time. Well done to all the boys and girls who were so well behaved and a huge thank you to all who helped organise this great fun day.
A special congratulations to the students in Learning Plaza 1 & 2 who participated at a very successful Sports Day in the Sports Complex. Well done.
GREEN-SCHOOL FLAG:
For the past two years, our school has been working on the theme of Energy in our Green-Schools Programme. On the 11th May, we were awarded our 8th Green Flag for our work on the programme. Two members of the Green-School committee, Layla Nibbs and Thomas Bell collected the flag with Mrs. Stenson and Ms. Donohoe. Well done everyone!
