For September and October we are working in the Athletics strand in our P.E lessons. We watched videos of other children running and talked about what they were doing well and how they could improve. For example, we should look forward when we run. We assessed our own running skills in partners this week. Great running everyone!!!

On Friday, the Mercy Primary annual Sports Day took place. The children took part in circuits, athletics, zumba, dance, gaelic, soccer, basketball, gymnastics and playground games. We even had some bouncy castles! The day ended with a soccer match between the 6th Class children and the school staff! It was a close game but the 6th Class children got lucky in the end!! Thank you to Ms. Sherry and the Sports Committee for organising such a fun day and thank you to everyone else who helped on the day!

Children from Ms. Travers’ 3rd Class and Ms. Donohoe’s 3rd/4th Class have been participating in a Sport for LIFE programme. This programme gives children knowledge of how their body works and how best to take care of it through fun activities. For example we have learned all about the Food Pyramid, how our heart works, our muscle names and locations etc. Today we went to the I.T to meet other schools who also participated and to play some of the activities together again. We even got free t-shirts and a certificate for our school! Teachers can now teach the programme to other classes too!  Thank you to all of the Sport for LIFE facilitators. We have had great fun!
